And now for some poetry...

I started this blog on January 11, 2012..almost 2 months ago and I realized I had not yet included any poetry.  I believe poetry is essential for children, and the volume I am showcasing today is lovely.
100 Great Poems by Girls edited by Celia Johnson has different sections such as "Imagination", "Nature", and my favorite "Fun and Nonsense".  Share some wonderful poetry with your daughter...or look up the boys version for your son!

This stew is perfect for a dreary, gray winter's day.  I learned this fabulously easy recipe from a friend years ago. Just remember to start early, since it needs to bake for 4 hours (or throw it in the crock pot)!

Mrs. T's Beef Stew
1 lb. beef stew meat
3 carrots, diced
3 stalks celery, diced,
2 potatoes, diced
1 onion, diced
1 bottle Mrs. T's Bloody Mary mix

Put all ingredients in a casserole dish, pour in the Mrs. Ts and bake for 4 hours at 325 degrees.

  1. That sounds great and really easy! What setting would you recommend for the crockpot, and for how long?

    1. I would put it in the crockpot on high for the first hour, and then an additional 3-4 hours (you can test a chunk of meat and/or potato to see if it is tender). And if it gets too dry (which sometimes happens in the oven) you can add a little beef or chicken broth.
