Beautiful writing

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, life gets in the way sometimes!  I have been listening to this story on CD in the car, and it has been so enjoyable to hear this beautiful writing read aloud.  It won the Booker Prize, which it greatly deserved.  Don't pick this up if you are looking for a fast-moving plot, or a great adventure.  This is a quiet story, about a man's life full of love and loss.  An Irish man has returned to the seaside town of his childhood summers to reminisce after the loss of his wife.  This author is truly talented.
The Sea by John Banville.

What is better for a big breakfast on a rainy day?   BELGIAN WAFFLES!!!  If you don't have a Belgian waffle maker, you can pick one up at Target for under $20.  We love them.  I put out a ton of toppings and everyone goes to town. This morning we had strawberries, raspberries, bananas, white chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, pecans, syrup, butter and whipped cream.  YUM.

Quick Waffles (from the Oster recipe booklet)

3 eggs
1 c milk
1/2 c melted butter or margarine
1 T vanilla
2 c flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 T baking powder
2 tsp. sugar

Beat whole eggs in a bowl and add mild, butter and vanilla.  In a separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients.  Stir wet and dry together and mix well.
